WHICH TYPE OF TOWING ADAPTER DO I NEED?

There are a few different options when it comes to TowBar Towing Electrics Adapters depending on what you have fitted to your tow vehicle and what you are towing

13 Pin Vehicle to 7 Pin Trailer Adapter

13 Pin to 7 Pin Towing Electrics Adapter

This adapter plugs into the 13 Pin socket on the vehicle and converts the Euro Socket to a 7 Pin socket for old style trailers and cycle carriers.  It can be left in the socket all the time but on some electrical kits this may activate the fog cut out on the tow vehicle meaning the fog light will not operate while the towing adapter is plugged in, this varies from vehicle to vehicle depending on the wiring fitted.

7 Pin to 13 Pin Towing Electrics Adapter

This adapter twists on to the 13 Pin plug on the caravan, trailer or bike rack and converts the Euro Plug to a 7 Pin plug for the old style tow bar electrical sockets. This can be left on all the time and removed when necessary.

7 Pin Vehicle to 13 Pin Trailer Adapter
13 Pin to 2 x 7 Pin (12n / 12s) Towing Electrics Adapter

This adapter plugs into the 13 Pin socket on the vehicle and converts the Euro Socket to the two 7 Pin sockets for old style Caravans manufactured pre 2007. It is advisable to check the feeds to your vehicles 13 pin Euro socket in advance because some factory fit towing electrics will not have all the relevant feeds to run everything within the Caravan. Fridge feeds and battery charging may have to be added to your tow vehicles towbar electrics.

Whatever electrics you choose or already have fitted to your tow vehicle, it’s advisable to have the alternative adapter so you can convert your existing towing vehicle electrics to suit any trailer, Caravan or cycle carrier that you may need to tow.
